1. What does this passage show me about God?

   • What do the different people around the cross — Pilate, the soldiers, the crowd, the centurion — say about Jesus, and what happens at the moment he dies?

2. What does it show me about people — and about myself?

   • The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. What does open access to God mean for you personally?

3. What will I obey this week? (a concrete step, with a day)

   • Joseph of Arimathea 'went boldly to Pilate' when others hid. What bold, costly step of identifying with Jesus will you take this week?

4. Who will I tell?

   • It was a Roman soldier who confessed, 'Surely this man was the Son of God.' Who unexpected in your life might be closer to that confession than you think?
