Digest

Answer from what the passage actually says — stay in the text.

  1. What does this passage show me about God?

    • What does Jesus do for the man at the pool, and what claims does he make about himself when the leaders confront him?
  2. What does it show me about people — and about myself?

    • Jesus says the Scriptures testify about him, yet the leaders refused to come to him for life. How can someone study the Bible and still miss Jesus?
  3. What will I obey this week? (a concrete step, with a day)

    • 'Get up, pick up your mat and walk' — Jesus commanded before the man felt able. What has Jesus already told you to do that you will act on this week?
  4. Who will I tell?

    • Who do you know who has been waiting a long time — for healing, for hope? How could you bring Jesus into their waiting this week?

Grow

Growth is God's part, not yours. Do the cycle faithfully and trust Him to give the growth (1 Corinthians 3:6–7).

Pray

Jesus, you asked a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years, 'Do you want to get well?' You have authority to give life. I bring you the places where I have stopped hoping.
