Digest

Answer from what the passage actually says — stay in the text.

  1. What does this show me about God?

    • God had already promised this family a future. Did Jacob need to lie to get it?
  2. What does it show me about people — and about me?

    • Jacob's mother helped him do it. What happens when a grown-up tells you that a lie is fine just this once?
  3. What will I obey this week?

    • What do you want so badly right now that you would be tempted to cheat for it? What will you do instead?
  4. Who will I tell?

    • Who is about to do something they will regret? What could you say?

Grow

Growth is God's part, not yours. Do the cycle faithfully and trust Him to give the growth (1 Corinthians 3:6–7).

Pray

God, Jacob dressed up as his brother and got what he wanted by lying. Help me not want something so much that I stop caring how I get it.
