Digest

Answer from what the passage actually says — stay in the text.

  1. What does this show me about God?

    • The father goes outside to plead with the older son too. What does that show about how God treats the angry one?
  2. What does it show me about people — and about me?

    • The older brother calls his brother "this son of yours." What does it do to a person to hold on to being right?
  3. What will I obey this week?

    • Is there a party you are refusing to go to? What will you do this week?
  4. Who will I tell?

    • Who has been overlooked while somebody else got forgiven? What could you say to them?

Grow

Growth is God's part, not yours. Do the cycle faithfully and trust Him to give the growth (1 Corinthians 3:6–7).

Pray

God, the older brother did everything right and still missed the party. Help me not be so busy being good that I forget to be glad.
