Now Do One Yourself

Look at what just happened. You read a story, you told it back, you worked out something about God and something about people, you picked one thing to do and one person to tell, and you handed the growing part to God.

Nobody explained Mark 2:1–12 to you. You did that.

So do the next one on your own. Pick a short story — Jesus and the storm in Mark 4:35–41 is a good second one — and run all three moves. It takes about fifteen minutes. Then do the bravest thing in this whole class and ask one person, a friend, a brother, a sister, a parent, to read the next one with you.

You just did one. Now do the next one.

Keep this: how to do a Discovery Bible Study

One short story. Three moves. Nobody explains it to you.

🍞 Eat it — read, read again, tell it back

Read the story out loud. Read it out loud again. Close the Bible and tell it back in your own words. The telling back is the swallow. Can’t do it without looking? Read it once more — that’s the method working, not you failing.

🥣 Digest it — the four questions

Answer them from the story you just told back. The only rule is “where do you see that?”

1. What does this show me about God?
2. What does it show me about people — and about me?
3. What will I obey this week? — a real thing, with a name and a day.
4. Who will I tell? — one person, not everybody.

🌱 Grow — God’s part

You planted and you watered. God brings about the growth (1 Corinthians 3:7, OTB). You aren’t in charge of how fast it happens.
