Some of the disappointment you carry may not really be about the church. It may be about God. You do not feel the peace you used to feel. You do not hear from Him the way you once did. The gentle pushes and pulls that used to guide you have gone quiet.
That is more common than anyone admits on a Sunday morning. The Bible is full of it. People of deep faith have gone through long seasons when God felt far away; some Christians have called it “the dark night of the soul”.
Today’s psalm is short. It starts in that silence. Notice where it ends, and what the writer decides to do before anything has changed.

An honest prayer
Pray this as it is, or in your own words.
Lord, how long? I do not feel You the way I used to. I am choosing to tell You so, and to keep talking to You anyway.

Psalm 13 (OTB)
1How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? 2How long will I carry this concern in my soul, With sorrow in my heart throughout the day? How long will my enemy triumph over me? 3Look upon me and respond, O Lord my God; Brighten my eyes, lest I fall into the sleep of death, 4And my enemy will declare, “I have prevailed against him,” And my adversaries will be glad when I am unsettled. 5Yet I have placed my trust in Your steadfast love; My heart shall find joy in Your deliverance. 6I will sing to the Lord, Because He has been gracious to me.
