Jesus First: 40-Day Challenge · 40 of 41

Day 39: Do you love me?

After failure, Jesus asks one question and gives one assignment.

Peter had denied Jesus three times. Now, by a fire on a beach after the resurrection, Jesus asks him a question three times.

Read it slowly. Notice what Jesus does not ask about, and what He gives Peter to do each time Peter answers. Notice the last two words He says.

Tomorrow is the last day. Today, let Jesus ask you His question, and answer it honestly.

What you write stays in this browser. Nothing is sent to anyone.

An honest prayer

Pray this as it is, or in your own words.

Lord, You know everything. You know that I love You. Here I am. I will feed Your sheep, and I will follow You.

John 21:15-19 (OTB)

15After they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He replied, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16He asked him again, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Tend my sheep.” 17He asked him a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18Truly, truly I say to you, when you were younger, you dressed yourself and went wherever you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and take you where you do not wish to go.” 19He said this to signify the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. After saying this, He said to him, “Follow me!”

Three questions

  1. What does this say about God?
  2. What does this say about people?
  3. If this is true, what would I do today?

Today, I will
