Day 37: Entrust it

Disciples who make disciples who make disciples.

Paul is writing to Timothy, a younger man he has walked with for years. Count the generations in the second verse of today’s reading.

That is the difference between a church that grows by gathering and a movement that grows by multiplying. A disciple is not finished when they come to faith. They are finished, in a sense, when they are making disciples of their own.

The three pictures that follow, a soldier, an athlete and a farmer, each say something about what that takes. Notice what they have in common.

Check in

This is where you will look back at yesterday. For today, just notice how you are coming into this.

An honest prayer

Pray this as it is, or in your own words.

Lord, make me faithful with what You have given me, and help me pass it on to people who will pass it on again.

2 Timothy 2:1-7 (OTB)

1Therefore, my son, draw strength from the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2What you have heard from me in the company of many witnesses, entrust to reliable individuals who will be able to teach others as well. 3Endure difficulties with me, like a dedicated soldier of Christ Jesus. 4No soldier actively serving gets entangled in the concerns of daily life, so that he may satisfy the one who enlisted him. 5And if someone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned as victor unless he competes according to the rules. 6The diligent farmer should be the first to partake of the harvest. 7Reflect on what I say, and the Lord will grant you insight into all things.

Three questions

  1. What does this say about God?
  2. What does this say about people?
  3. If this is true, what would I do today?

Today, I will
