Day 31: What I have

Serve the need in front of you, then point to the One who meets it.

Peter and John were on their way to pray when a man asked them for money. They had none. What they did have changed his life.

Watch the order of things in today’s passage: what they notice, what they give, and what happens afterward when a crowd gathers. Serving opened a door, and they walked through it.

This is service with intention. You meet a real need with no strings, and you stay alert for the moment someone wants to know why. A simple question many people find helpful: Would you like to learn how to study the Bible?

What you write stays in this browser. Nothing is sent to anyone.

An honest prayer

Pray this as it is, or in your own words.

Lord, I do not have much, but what I have I give You. Use me to meet someone's need today, and give me the courage to point them to Jesus.

Acts 3:1-16 (OTB)

1Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, which was the ninth hour. 2A man who had been lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was placed every day to beg for alms from those entering the temple courts. 3Seeing Peter and John about to enter the temple courts, he asked them for alms. 4Peter, together with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, “Look at us.” 5The man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were strengthened. 8He leapt to his feet and began to walk, and went with them into the temple courts, walking and leaping and praising God. 9Everyone witnessed him walking about, praising God; 10and they recognised him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. 11While he clung to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the place called Solomon’s Colonnade, utterly astonished. 12When Peter saw this, he addressed the people, “Men of Israel, why are you surprised at this? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk? 13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, whom you handed over and disowned before Pilate, even though he had decided to release Him. 14You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be released to you. 15You killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, and we are witnesses of this. 16By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know has been made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.

Three questions

  1. What does this say about God?
  2. What does this say about people?
  3. If this is true, what would I do today?

Today, I will
