Jesus looked at the crowds and saw a harvest, not a problem.
For four weeks you have been looking at the church and at your own heart. This week you look outward.
A great deal of church service is busyness: keeping programs running, filling slots, staying occupied. It is no wonder many people are tired of it. But there is another kind of service, the kind Jesus did, which always had people in view.
Read what Jesus saw when He looked at the crowds, what He felt, and what He asked His disciples to pray. Then pray it yourself, and mean it.

An honest prayer
Pray this as it is, or in your own words.
Lord of the harvest, give me Your eyes for the people around me. Send out workers into Your harvest, and send me.

Matthew 9:35-38 (OTB)
35Jesus travelled through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he was moved with compassion for them, because they were troubled and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he told his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. 38Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field.”
